Although the stations are run in conjunction, they’re quite different. Gunbar is predominantly used for ram breeding and farming, whereas Tiarra is used for shearing, lamb marking and crutching.
Gunbar covers a beautiful part of Australia with fertile soils and a semi-arid climate – making for hot summers and relatively cool winters. Due to its proximity to Hillston, Hay and Griffith, the homestead is hardwired to the local electricity grid making for 24hour power. Somewhat of a rarity for large outback stations.
Throughout the year there are plenty of social events and opportunities for local sport such as football and cricket on the weekends. Key social events include:
- Carrathool Races
- Griffith Cup
- Rewind in the Vines
- Hay Rodeo
- Booligal Sheep Races
This is a rare opportunity to learn about large-scale ram breeding, sustainable land management and gain well-rounded exposure to the farming industry.
