We are currently seeking an experienced Manager for the iconic Commonwealth Hill Station which runs around 30,000 Merino sheep over an area of 1,000,000 acres with a full-time permanent staff of 8. The property sits about 110km west of the Stuart Highway, with the turnoff mid-way between Glendambo and Coober Pedy and is one of four Jumbuck properties within this region, all neighbouring. Commonwealth Hill is well resourced, maintained and managed across both infrastructure and livestock. It holds well maintained fleet of plant equipment including Cat12H grader, Cat skid steer loader (with trenching and auger capability), V8 Landcruisers and 6 CRF 230s and 250s. A Cessna 172 aircraft and motorcycles are used for mustering with air-to-ground UHF communication necessary to keep things moving smoothly. Applicants who hold a pilot’s licence will be looked at favourably.

The property currently has 42 windmills and 10 solar bores and eight pipeline systems. Watering points primarily serviced by network of pipelines including 200km of pipeline across three major pipeline systems, four smaller pipeline systems then one 20km pipeline system at the homestead.

The homestead complex operates on 24-hour solar power with a backup generator. The homestead offers a spacious 6-bedroom, 4-bathroom arrangement, fully ducted evaporative aircon and comes fully furnished including internet and phone. An approved RFDS airstrip is located nearby.

The Manager will be responsible for the development and delivery of the livestock program. You will also provide mentoring and training to staff, hold responsibility for the timely service and maintenance of station plant and equipment, waters and fences. The job receives direct administrative support from head office in areas such as HR and recruitment, WorkCover and WH&S, purchasing, transport and logistics. You will also have a direct line of access to Directors.

2021 has been a highlight year, despite minimal rain, with lamb marking at 108%, in an average season Commonwealth Hill will produce c. 11k lambs with shearing around 30K sheep.

As a successful Manager you will be hands-on, motivated and with experience managing pastoral properties. Your strong leadership and people management skills will be crucial to your success along with your pastoral knowledge, mechanical aptitude, organisational skills and commitment to developing a culture of safety and productivity.
